Threat with a knife: At about 8:59 p.m. May 15 in the 400 block of South 2nd Street, officers were dispatched to a physical domestic disturbance with a knife. When officers arrived, both parties were on scene. The wife had called 911 after arguing with her husband, and after he physically assaulted her and then threatened her with a knife. She was able to get him to put down the knife. After interviewing both parties, the officers determined there was probable cause for first-degree domestic violence assault.
Runaway juvenile: At about 1:26 p.m. May 16 in the 100 block of Mill Avenue South, an officer was approached by a woman who wanted to report her daughter as a juvenile runaway. During the course of the runaway report, the mother reported that she has an ex-boyfriend, in his early 40s, who, at the time of their dating, began a relationship with her daughter, then 15-16 years of age. She broke up with him, and then he continued his relationship with her daughter, and the mother believes they are living in his vehicle. This report was taken for documentation so that when the juvenile is located, as she is currently listed as “missing,” a proper interview can be conducted to determine if there is criminal intent and possible charges.
Drug paraphernalia found: At 6:50 p.m. May 17 in the 200 block of Burnett Avenue South, an officer was patrolling the area of the transit center, and contacted a subject with a known misdemeanor warrant. Officers contacted and detained the subject, confirmed his identity and confirmed the warrant. Once the warrant was confirmed, officers searched the suspect. During the search, a large assortment of drug paraphernalia was located, as well as powder and a clear rock-like substance. The suspect was then read Miranda warnings and answered the officer’s questions about the drugs. Based on the suspect’s statement that he had clear knowledge he was in possession of drugs, as well as positive tests on the drugs for the presence of methamphetamine and fentanyl, the officer determined probable cause for the crime of knowingly possessing a controlled substance and the suspect was booked into SCORE jail.
Trespass: At about 11 p.m. May 17 near the Renton Pavilion Events Center, an officer was on routine patrol in the area and observed a group of individuals loitering on the south side of the event center within the area of Piazza Park. Upon contacting the group, the officer recognized one of the male individuals from previous contacts who had been expelled from all city parks for a period of one year, which was still valid until March 2026. Probable cause was then established to arrest the suspect for trespass in parks, and he was booked into SCORE jail.
Driving under the influence: At about 1:40 a.m. May 18 on North 4th Street, officers initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle driving the wrong direction. North 4th Street is a one-way street that travels westbound only, and the driver was driving eastbound. The officer who spoke to the driver noted that he could smell intoxicants emanating from the driver. An officer arrived on the scene to assist, and when he contacted the suspect, who was cooperative, he observed that his eyes were bloodshot, watery and slightly droopy. The suspect agreed to conduct voluntary standardized field sobriety tests (SFSTs). Based on his performance during the tests and later a breathalyzer test, the suspect was cited for DUI.
