Suspect in West Hill shooting surrenders to Seattle Police

The suspect in the shooting of a woman in a group home Wednesday evening on West Hill was booked into the King County Jail just after noon Friday, after surrendering to Seattle Police.

Ayanna A. Shamari, 51, had been staying in the University District after the shooting with a friend, who facilitated her surrender at about 11:45 a.m. Friday. She was then turned over to detectives with the King County Sheriff’s Office.

The Ford Windstar van she was driving was impounded.

Shamari was booked for investigation of first-degree assault and first-degree arson.

She fled the group home on South 117th Street after opening fire on residents in the home’s kitchen. She was considered armed and dangerous.

The owner of the group home was shot in the stomach; she remains in Harborview Medical Center in serious but stable condition, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.
