Suspect in West Hill shooting being held on $2 million bail; charges due Tuesday

A woman who surrendered to Seattle Police Friday in connection with a West Hill shooting is being held on $2 million bail in the county jail.

Charges are expected to be filed on Tuesday.

Ayanna A. Shamari, 51, was booked into the King County Jail just after noon Friday, after surrendering to Seattle Police.

She had been staying in the University District after the shooting with a friend, who facilitated her surrender at about 11:45 a.m. Friday. She was then turned over to detectives with the King County Sheriff’s Office.

The Ford Windstar van she was driving was impounded.

Shamari was booked for investigation of first-degree assault and first-degree arson.

She fled the group home on South 117th Street last Wednesday evening after opening fire on residents in the home’s kitchen. She was considered armed and dangerous.

The owner of the group home was shot in the stomach; she was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where she under went surgery.
