A convicted felon from Spokane County was arrested Tuesday in a brutal home-invasion robbery in January that sent an elderly Renton couple to Harborview Medical Center with extensive injuries.

The break in the case came when evidence collected by a Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response Team led Renton Police detectives to the 49-year-old suspect from Spokane.

Detectives interviewed and arrested the suspect on Tuesday; he was booked into the Spokane County Jail pending transfer to King County.

Renton Police officers responded the evening of Jan. 24 to a 911 call from a home in the 4100 block of Wells Avenue North, in Renton’s Kennydale neighborhood.

They discovered that the elderly couple who lived there had been brutally beaten during a home-invasion robbery, according to a Renton Police Department news release.

The suspect had forced his way in through the couple’s back door.

A K9 track and extensive search by patrol officers did not locate the suspect.

The 86-year-old husband and his 74-year-old wife suffered extensive injuries, including a skull fracture and serious blunt force trauma. Both survived after extended hospitalization, and continue to recover, according to police.

In the news release the Renton Police Department thanked concerned citizens who provided information in this case, as wel as the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab and other law-enforcement agencies who assisted.
