Soroptimists honor Roxanne Hanson for ‘Making a Difference for Women’

Roxanne Hanson won the Making a Difference for Women Award during Soroptimist International of Renton’s annual officer installation and awards banquet at Merrill Gardens June 17.

Roxanne Hanson won the Making a Difference for Women Award during Soroptimist International of Renton’s annual officer installation and awards banquet at Merrill Gardens June 17.

The $500 award honors a woman who makes differences in the lives of other women and girls in Renton. The money goes to the winner’s favorite charity.

Hanson is head of Greater Renton Kiwanis, and organizes the Kiwanis/Soroptimist Children’s Christmas party each year.

She is also head of Renton High School’s Key Club, a mentor for Communities in Schools of Renton and is on the Renton Chamber of Commerce Board.

Hanson is also active in the Renton Downtown Event Committee and is on the Board of the Renton High School Excellence in Education Committee. Hanson also recently headed up the National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament at Renton High School. More than 200 athletes from across the United States competed in the three-day tournament.

Hanson helps with downtown events at Halloween and Christmas. She also helps with the Renton River Days’ kick-off banquet and Kids’ Day Events.
