Sheriff reopens the Cedar River

King County Sheriff Sue Rahr at noon Friday reopened the Cedar River to recreational use.

The Green River remains closed.

“The flow of the Cedar River has diminished considerably, and although still very cold, the public is free to use the river again,” said Rahr.

Both the Cedar River and the Green River were closed on May 17 because snow melt-off from uncharacteristically hot weather made the rivers fast, high and cold.

The bodies of two people using the Green River on May 17 have not been recovered. One was an experienced kayaker, age 45, and the other was a man floating with friends on two inflatable rafts tied together. He was 34 years old and not wearing a life jacket.
