Seahawks 12K run set for The Landing

The Seattle Seahawks, The Landing and the City of Renton are planning the first-ever “Seahawks 12K Run at The Landing.”

The Seahawks 12K will include a 12K run, a 5K run/walk, a non-competitive half-mile Kids Run and a Block Party with free games, activities and entertainment. Proceeds for the event will benefit the Renton Skyway Boys and Girls Club.

“The Seahawks organization is excited to host the first-annual Seahawks 12K Run at The Landing to provide a great community event that helps encourage an active and healthy lifestyle that fits with our Play 60 program,” said Mike Flood, the team’s vice president of community relations and special projects, in a press release.

“Given the success of last year’s Block Party at The Landing, we felt this would be a great community event to get involved with. In the spirit of the 12th Man, we look forward to seeing our fans and friends come out for this event,” he said.

The Seahawks 12K at The Landing will be held on Sunday, April 11, starting at 8:30 a.m. at The Landing. This year’s event will offer participants three run options, as well as a community block party to cap off the family friendly event.

The events:

• Seahawks 12K Run – 8:30 a.m.

The route will start and finish at The Landing, run along the southeast shore of Lake Washington and offer participants an opportunity to run around the Seahawks headquarters and training facility, the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.

• Valley Medical Center 5K Run/Walk – 9 a.m.

The 5K Run and Walk will start at 9 a.m. at the same location, but runners and walkers will utilize the Cedar River Trail to make a scenic route around the South Lake Washington area of Renton. The 5K Run/Walk will allow dogs on a leash and strollers.

• BECU Half-mile Kids Run – 10:30 a.m.

The Kids Run is a half-mile, non-competitive run, fully contained within The Landing and starts at 10:30 a.m.

• Block Party – 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Block Party at The Landing will round out the festivities with live entertainment, the BECU Kids Zone with bounce houses, interactive games, face painters, an interactive contest, the Seattle Humane Society’s MaxMobile pet adoption van, a local art show and other activities.

“This is a great opportunity to build on the partnerships we have established with both The Landing and the Seattle Seahawks,” said Renton Mayor Denis Law. “This family focused event will provide an opportunity to introduce a lot of new people to the many exciting changes happening in Renton.”
