Renton Rotary Club’s Youth of the Month for February

The Rotary Club of Renton has recognized three high school February students of the month.
• Madalynn Gavigan Martin is senior at Hazen High School.
Martin holds a 3.8 grade point average (GPA). She has been involved in Earth Corps Club, as president, honors orchestra, cross country, track and field. Martin has received the academic all-star award, scholar athlete award, honor roll, president’s bronze volunteer service award, junior varsity and varsity letters. She volunteers with Youth Earth Service Corps, Department of
Natural Resources & Parks, Campfire USA, Newcastle Weed Warriors, and East Hill String Lessons. Martin plans to attend Western
Washington University to major in environmental science and hopes to serve with AmeriCorps or the Peace Corps.
• Leah Fox is senior at Lindbergh High School.
Fox holds a 3.6 GPA She has been a member of the swim team, tennis, wrestling, as manager and the Treehouse Foundation. Fox has received “Most Improved Award” for swim, various junior varsity and varsity letters. She volunteers with Genesis Diez, a program where youth work with orphans in Mexico. She plans to attend a four-year college or university to earn a degree, then she would like to join the Peace Corps and to teach English in South America. One day she hopes to teach high school Spanish or become a translator.
• Queenelle Gazman is a senior at Renton High School.
Gazman holds a 3.99 G.P.A. She is involved with National Honor Society, Gay Straight Alliance, speech and debate team, journalism, as editor-in-chief, Ignite Mentoring, jazz band, and cross country. Gazman has received AP Scholar Award, Mason Top 10 Junior Award, Harvard Scholar, departmental awards, and AAUW Washington State in Mathematics. She volunteers with St. Anthony Church. Gazman plans begin her college education at a four-year university in Washington, then hopes to transfer to the University of Southern California to major in film production. She hopes to intern at a prestigious film company and then begin hands-on competitions as a filmmaker.
Rotary members recognize three Renton School District high school students each month as Youth of the Month. The award is given to students who possess leadership abilities, maintain a good grade point average, participate in school activities and volunteer in their community.
