July 13 edition

Apartment stabbing

Renton police dispatched on July 5 at approximately 3:10 a.m. to Overlake Hospital in Bellevue regarding a patient who walked into the emergency room with a stab wound to his leg.

According to the department, the patient claimed his brother stabbed him at their apartment, located in the 2500 block of Northeast 4th Street in Renton.

At the time the officers arrived, the patient had been sedated. Officers interviewed an 18-year-old roommate in the lobby of the hospital.

Per the roommate’s statement, around 1:20 a.m., he was at his apartment with his roommates when for an unknown reason the suspect, a 21-year-old man, walked up to him and punched him on the right side of the face.

The 18-year-old roommate stated it was unprovoked, and he went into the restroom to treat his injuries.

While in the restroom, he heard yelling in the living room and came out to find his friend, a 17-year-old boy — the brother to the suspect — stabbed in the leg.

The 18-year-old man then drove the 17-year-old to Overlake Hospital, according to his statement.

The victim told the officer that when he confronted his brother about punching their roommate in the face, his brother pulled out some sort of a small pocket knife or razor blade out of his pocket, bent over, and cut him in the leg.

At the time, both victims believed the suspect was still at the apartment, according to the department.

The department’s investigations unit obtained a search warrant and at approximately 10:40 a.m., Renton SWAT officers served the search warrant on the apartment and arrested the suspect without incident.

Police established probable cause to arrest the suspect on charges for assault in the first degree and assault in the fourth degree.

Assault

Renton police dispatched on July 3 at approximately 12:30 p.m. to report of an assault that happened the night before in the 300 block of Smithers Avenue South.

The victim, a 71-year-old man, said he had been assaulted by two to three men while he was taking out his trash.

According to the department, the victim said he went outside into his backyard around 10 p.m. the night before to throw trash into his garbage bins.

He was suddenly hit in the head, knocking him to the ground, and the men started hitting and kicking him repeatedly. The suspects then left the area in an unknown direction.

The man did not know why the incident occurred nor why he was targeted, according to the department. Nothing was stolen in the incident and the suspects did not enter his home.

The officer observed multiple bruises on the victim’s face, neck, arms, thighs and legs, and feet and called the fire department to respond for a medical evaluation.

The fire department responded and after checking him, advised he should go to the hospital for further evaluation, according to the department. As of June 7, police have no suspects.

Domestic assault

Officers dispatched on July 2 at 9:44 a.m. to report of a domestic assault in the 10400 block of Southeast 174th Street.

The 911 caller told dispatch that he had been contacted by a neighbor who said that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend and needed the police.

Upon arrival, the officer interviewed the victim, a 34-year-old woman, who was standing outside the building.

The victim stated that her boyfriend had strangled her for at least two minutes during an argument over their Wifi. The officer then interviewed the suspect, a 32-year-old man, who was still inside the residence and placed him under arrest.

The victim was able to provide security footage as there was surveillance set up inside the residence capturing the strangulation on video. The victim had noticeable injuries and the fire department was called in to evaluate the victim.

The suspect was booked into the King County Jail for assault in the second-degree charges without incident, according to the department.

Assault

Renton police dispatched on June 29 at 8:15 p.m. to the 17400 block of 120th Lane Southeast for a potential assault in progress.

Per dispatch, the 911 caller stated that he was jumped by three men at the location by the trash compactors, assaulted, and threatened with a gun, prior to all suspects leaving on foot.

The officer arrived and contacted two victims, a man and a woman, according to the department. The woman stated she was at the compactor throwing away trash bags and heard a voice yelling.

She then walked around the fence and saw a woman in a black Dodge arguing with her husband. This woman then sped off before doubling back and leaving again.

Minutes later, three men came from the other side of the trash compactor and began to physically attack her husband. They also pulled a firearm and threatened them.

It is unclear what provoked the initial argument, according to the department.

K9 was requested to track the three men for assault in the second degree, according to the department. No suspects were located.

Police called in the fire department to tend to the victim’s injuries. The man mentioned that he recognized the woman and her vehicle from weeks prior when the same vehicle and woman hit his car and fled the area.

The department turned the case to the investigations unit for further review.
