Renton police blotter | April 20 edition

Domestic violence

Renton police dispatched on April 12 at approximately 12:21 a.m. for a welfare check at the Residence Inn in the 1200 block of Lake Washington Boulevard North.

Police identified the incident as a domestic violence incident between a husband and wife involving a weapon and threats. Based on statements and evidence collected, police determined probable cause to believe that the woman committed the crime of assault in the first degree and arrested her. Police forwarded the case to King County prosecutors for review of charges.

Potential threats

A Renton officer dispatched on April 7 at approximately 3:56 p.m. to a report of a woman threatening another woman outside the office of an apartment complex located in the 2600 block of 2650 Northeast 10th Street.

The victim, a woman, advised the officer that she heard juveniles yelling outside in front of the apartment office and left the building to see what was happening.

An adult woman accompanied the group of juveniles, and after the victim asked the group to leave, the adult woman pulled up her shirt and displayed a firearm. After an argument regarding the firearm, the suspect raised and aimed the firearm at the victim, continuing to make threats.

The group dispersed after hearing sirens.

A number of the juveniles and the suspect returned to the location as the officer interviewed the victim, and the officer detained them for questioning. The officer interviewed the suspect and the suspect denied pulling out her weapon and threatening her.

With no video surveillance facing the location of the alleged crime and conflicting statements, the officer released all parties from the scene after documenting the incident and forwarded the case to the investigations department to establish probable cause.

Armed robbery

A Renton officer was dispatched on March 30 at around 3:45 p.m. to the 600 block of Dayton Avenue Northeast due to a report of an armed robbery.

The officer contacted the victim, a 13-year-old boy, and the victim’s mother upon arrival. The victim stated a blue Hyundai pulled up alongside him as he walked home westbound at the intersection of Northeast 7th Street and the 700 block of Dayton Avenue Northwest.

A man between the ages of 15 and 18 years old stepped out of the passenger side of the vehicle and demanded the victim’s phone. The victim described the man as Hispanic, with a medium build, brown hair and brown eyes.

The victim noticed the suspect held a handgun in his right hand, though the suspect never aimed it at him directly, the victim advised police.

The suspect demanded the victim give him his shoes and the victim removed and handed his shoes, a pair of white Nike Air Force One tennis shoes. The suspect fled in the vehicle and the victim ran home and told his mom what happened.

The case will be forwarded to detectives for further investigation.

Convenience store armed robbery

Officers were dispatched on April 3 at approximately 3:37 a.m. after receiving a report of a recent robbery at 7-Eleven in the 400 block of Sunset Boulevard North.

Dispatch advised the officers that two men armed with a rifle robbed the 7-Eleven and fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim, an employee, who advised he was the only employee working when two men entered the store with face masks, gloves and hoods on.

Both men followed the victim behind the counter, with one holding what appeared to be a black rifle, and told the victim to open the register, the victim advised the officers.

The victim said one man told him, “Open the safe or I will shoot you.”

The two men left with approximately $400 in cash and fled the area in a Red Ford Fusion with no license plates, according to the department.

As of now, the investigation continues, and police have yet to locate the two men. If found, police have probable cause to believe the suspects committed robbery in the first degree. The department has forwarded the case to detectives for further investigation.
