Cold case from 2008

Renton police have requested public assistance regarding the cold case of a 2008 vehicular homicide resulting in the death of a 40-year-old man.

On June 26th, 2008, Dougan — riding a motorcycle — crashed into an SUV at the intersection of South 45th Place and Talbot Road South as the vehicle turned in front of him.

The vehicle fled the scene, leaving Dougan lying in the roadway. Dougan died as a result of injuries he sustained in the collision days later.

Police have never identified the suspects involved in the incident and have no leads — requesting the public send any information they know regarding the case.

Gunpoint robbery

Renton police dispatched on April 5 at approximately 8:33 a.m. to a robbery call in the 17700 Block of 105th Place Southeast in Renton.

According to the department, the victim said four to five subjects stole his vehicle and phone from him at gunpoint.

The victim explained to police that multiple subjects approached him in the garage he rents. A suspect in all-black clothing, long sleeves and a green ski mask pointed a handgun at him, telling him they planned to take the car. The suspect also demanded the victim’s phone and money.

The suspects left in the vehicle after taking the victim’s keys and money.

The victim attempted to use the locate feature on his phone, left in the stolen vehicle, but discovered the suspects turned the phone off.

According to the department, they have no indication that the victim knew the suspects. They assigned to case to the department’s investigations unit.

The South End Police Department recovered the vehicle in the evening, unoccupied.

Investigation continues into the incident. Police have not arrested any suspects.

Drug trafficking

Renton police responded on April 2 at 6:15 a.m. to a man slumped over behind the wheel of a vehicle in the 1500 Block of Jefferson Avenue Northeast.

The suspect refused to open the door after officers woke him up, resulting in officers smashing the vehicle window and removing him. The suspect attempted to fight one of the officers resulting in minor injury to the officer’s finger. Police deployed a Taser and arrested the suspect.

In a search of the vehicle, officers discovered a loaded firearm, 267 grams of suspected methamphetamines, and $3200 on the suspect’s person.

Investigation determined the suspect was a convicted felon and the vehicle he occupied was reported stolen in Seattle.

Police transported the suspect to Valley Medical Center for a blood warrant for driving under the influence and medical clearance prior to booking him into the King County Jail on charges of unlawful firearm possession, drug charges and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Fire

On March 31, 2023, the Renton Regional Fire Authority responded to a residential fire in Station 11’s area on the 600 Block of South 18th.

Five engines, one aid unit and two officer rigs with a total of 19 Renton Regional Fire Authority personnel arrived to a smoking one-story house.

The home’s sole resident informed crews in the driveway the fire was located in the basement. Crews extinguished the fire and completed a search to check for extensions.

After inspecting the home, firefighters returned the home to the homeowner and requested the Red Cross assist the displaced resident.
