A man and woman in their 30s from Renton were arrested Tuesday following a home burglary just outside North Bend, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.
The man, 33, and woman, 37, were booked into the King County Jail for investigation of theft of a firearm, first-degree burglary, second-degree theft and forgery.
The man was also booked for investigation of unlawful possession of a firearm and eluding a police officer, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The man had led King County deputies on a pursuit along I-90 that ended with his arrest on I-405.
The woman was arrested by Snoqualmie Police after trying to cash a check stolen from the burglary.
The incident began shortly after 1 p.m. when the victims, who are in their 80s, called 911 to report a burglary at their home. While waiting for a deputy to arrive, they called their bank to report the theft of their checkbook, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
A sergeant assigned to the City of North Bend contacted the victims and learned a .357 magnum handgun was stolen, along with a checkbook and some other items. At 1:30 p.m. while the sergeant was still there, the victims’ bank called to report someone was trying to cash one of the stolen checks at the Snoqualmie IGA store.
The sergeant asked that Snoqualmie police officers respond to the store with sheriff’s deputies. The woman was arrested without incident. Deputies learned that she had a male accomplice, who was parked nearby.
A detective spotted the man and the car. The man fled after deputies tried to stop the car.
During the pursuit, the driver was able to avoid spike strips placed by Washington State Patrol troopers. He reached speeds of at least 90 mph and was passing other traffic on the shoulder of the roadway, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff Office’s Guardian 1 helicopter was overhead which allowed pursuing deputies to back off in the interest of public safety, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect turned north onto Interstate 405, but pulled over the right shoulder and surrendered. He was arrested without incident.
