Renton Municipal Arts Commission seeks local artists’ designs for utility box art

Six artists will receive $800 if their design is selected.

The Renton Municipal Arts Commission is seeking design proposals from local artists for vinyl graphics wraps on six different utility control boxes in Renton.

The arts commission says designs should relate to the culture, history, and-or the landscape of Renton. It is encouraged but not required to make a design relating to the location of the specific utility control box that it is to be applied to.

The project, according to the Renton Municipal Arts Commission, is intended to transform dull utility cabinets into visually appealing, enjoyable additions to the public right of way.

Artists will receive $800 for each selected design.

The arts commission urges participants to carefully review the complete Request for Proposals before applying.

The guidelines also include contact information for participants who have questions.

Artist submissions are due Jan. 28, and artists who are selected will be notified by Feb. 14.
