At about 6:20 p.m., the 41-year-old man was walking north on Smithers Avenue South, approaching Houser Way South, when he heard someone running up behind him. As he got closer, the runner yelled at the man, demanding that he give him his wallet. Even though the man said he would turn over his wallet, the other man began punching the man, so he fought back.

The man got away briefly but was pursued by the suspect. The man yelled for help at least 40 times. Once the fight was over, the suspect ran back toward Smithers Avenue and got into a car, which drove south on Smithers.

Boy suffers facial fractures

A 13-year-old Renton boy was taken to Harborview after suffering two facial fractures at the hands of a classmate on Feb. 16.

The 13-year-old, who originally came forward as the victim, turned out to be the instigator of a fight he lost.

The 13-year-old had confronted the other boy about talking behind his back about him; a challenge was issued to fight. The 13-year-old did not want to fight and backed out of the challenge. The boy told police the suspect and four other males approached him from behind near Sunset Court Park on Feb. 16. The two boys fought.

Police discovered, based on witness footage from their cell phones, that the boy actually instigated the fight and lost. Police believe the boy was trying to seek crime victim’s compensation for having to seek medical treatment after a fight he instigated, lost and was injured.

The man gave her a hug and kissed her on the cheek; she tried to pull away, but the man resisted. He kissed her several more times. Eventually, he let her go and told her to have a good day.

Police cited the man for fourth-degree assault.
