‘McTeacher Night’ a success for Dimmitt

This year the event raised $500, but students are still collecting money in their classrooms for the month of May to send to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Community members and Dimmitt Middle School teachers and students helped raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s “Pennies for Patients,” May 7 during their annual “McTeacher Night” fundraiser.

For the event, teachers from the school help serve patrons at the McDonald’s at 73 Rainier Ave. S. About 20 percent of the total earnings collected from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. went to the charity.

Twenty-five teachers volunteered their time to participate in “McTeacher Night.” It also brought out Battalion Chief John Lecoq and crew from the Renton Fire and Emergency Response Operations. A department truck was on hand for tours and demonstrations. There were also “McMusic Performances” by Dimmitt orchestra and choir students.

“It’s always crowded and everyone’s happy to donate,” said Claudia Paul-Hergert, Dimmitt Middle School counselor and event organizer.
