The Committee for Children on Thursday (June 11) will honor Mary Ellen Stone, executive director of the Renton-based King County Sexual Assault Resource Center (KCSARC), with the Visionary Leadership Award.

The award celebrates those who make outstanding contributions to improve the lives of children through safety and education.

For 36 years Stone has worked to improve sexual-assault prevention, education and victim advocacy by seeking new ways to impact, reach and provide services to more victims of sexual assault.

In 2014, KCSARC provided 4,544 hours of therapy and offered legal advocacy to 95 percent of the sexual- assault cases in King County.

Stone will speak, as will Dr. Lisa M. Jones of the Crimes against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire and Committee for Children’s Executive Director, Joan Cole Duffell. The reception is in Seattle.
