Deadline is Saturday to remove studded tires

The deadline to remove studded tires is at 12:01 a.m. Sunday.

Studded tires are legal during the typically wintry driving months of November through March. The fine for driving with studs at other times is $124.

Sometimes the deadline is extended, but long-term weather forecasts call for typical late March and early April conditions, with snow possible in the higher elevations, according to the Washington state Department of Transportation.

Forecasts do not show the potential for strong statewide snow or ice storms at lower elevations.
