Car flees possible abduction in Renton Sunday, crashes head-on with vehicle on I-5

A  silver 1997 Saturn traveling south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 crashed head-on into another vehicle after fleeing the scene of an apparent abduction in southwest Renton early Sunday afternoon, according to the Renton Police Department.

All three occupants of the suspect car, two men and a woman, were transported to Harborview Hospital.  Due to their conditions, their identities were not immediately determined and their relationship and the circumstances leading up to the apparent abduction were unknown, according to police.

A possible abduction was reported to Renton police at 12:43 p.m. in the 600 block of Monster Road Southwest. A witness reported that two men had forced a woman into a car, which then drove away.  The witness kept sight of the car until Renton Police caught up to it.

When the arriving officers attempted to stop the Saturn, the driver refused to stop.  The driver led police on a two-minute pursuit into Tukwila, where he entered the northbound lanes of I-5.  The officers halted the pursuit on the freeway when the driver turned the vehicle 180 degrees, according to police. The Saturn then crashed head-on into a northbound 1997 Ford Taurus, whose driver, a 52-year-old Federal Way man, was not injured.

Washington State Patrol and Renton Police Traffic Division are investigating the collision.  Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to call the Renton Police at 425-430-7500, reference case number 11-3802.
