39-year-old man shot near Rainier Avenue, taken to Harborview

The condition of the 39-year-old man shot early Sunday on Southwest Langston Road near downtown Renton is still “touch and go,” his family has told Renton police.

The Asian man was taken to Harborview Medical Center after he was shot in the lower body and arm, according to the Renton Police Department.

“It appears to be very much a random shooting,” said Terri Vickers, a police department spokeswoman. There is no known gang connection, she said, nor does it appear those involved knew each other.

Renton officers responded to a report of gunshots in the 300 block of Southwest Langston Road at about 3:30 a.m. The man was found in the 400 block of Langston Road near Rainier Avenue.

The suspect or perhaps someone with the suspect asked the victim and the group the victim was walking with for money, she said. The group declined to give them money and shortly the suspect fired shots toward the group, striking the victim, she said.

The man’s condition has alternated between stable and critical condition since the shooting, according to police.

Officers located the suspect, a juvenile black male, walking in the area. He was booked into the youth center in Seattle for investigation of felony assault.

A gun believed to be the weapon used in the shooting was recovered in the grass in the area, according to police.
