10 girls from Renton to attend Evergreen Girls State

Ten of the girls from Renton high schools who will attend Evergreen Girls State next week are attending thanks to sponsorship from The American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 19.

Girls State attendees are assigned to one of two political parties to learn how city, county and state governments function. They run for offices, debate legislation and solve real-world problems.

Evergreen Girls State is held each year at Central Washington University in Ellensburg. This year, the program is June 14-20.

Several Renton organizations helped the American Legion pay for the 10 delegates. Those organizations include Kiwanis of Renton, Renton Rotary, Soroptimists International of Renton, Renton Carpenters Union Local 1797 and Fairwood Lions Club.

Renton’s Evergreen Girls State attendees are from Hazen, Lindbergh and Renton high schools. They are: Ashley Thordarson, Britney Boler, Patrice Frazier, Elizabeth Lee, Elizabeth Lamb, Keyona Jackson, Lindsay Dacuan, Taylor Williams, Tram Nguyen and Ann Bucher.
