April 5-12

The Return of the 2024 Dragon Egg Treasure Hunt: To celebrate Erasmus the Renton Dragon’s Hatching Month, participants will delve into the “Elemental Quest,” journeying through earth, air, fire, and water-themed locations across Renton to discover hidden dragon eggs. Crafted by the Renton Art Glass Studio, these hand-blown eggs showcase vibrant colors, symbolizing the elements of nature. Starting April 5, participants will be able to find the 25 eggs initially hidden and 25 more added on April 12. Adventurers are encouraged to register their finds and share the excitement on social media to unlock the opportunity for additional prizes. Register through the Renton Municipal Arts Commission page at rentonwa.gov to receive clues and embark on this enchanting quest.

April 11

The Renton Reporter & Umpqua Bank presents Fem Allies In Business (F.A.B.) at Umpqua Bank: A professional women’s networking group, this event is held every second Thursday of the month and is a free event that includes light breakfast, tea and coffee, time for mingling and two guest speakers. The event is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at 333 Southwest 7th Street in Renton.

April 14

Dragon Dash 5K/10K Fun Run & Walk beneath Erasmus on Wells Avenue: Celebrate the birthday of Erasmus the rooftop dragon with the second annual Dragon Dash. Open to competitive runners, fun runners, walkers, and families. Check-in will be 8 a.m. and the race will begin at 9 a.m. The starting line will begin beneath the Erasmus statue on Wells Avenue between Macadon’s and Common Ground and the finish line will be at the Henry Moses Aquatic Center. After the run, venture through the Renton Arts Commission’s Ren Fair in downtown Renton. Register at rentonwa.gov/dragonregister.

April 16

Project Be Free presents Family Resource Night at VFW Post 1263: From 3-7 p.m., get connected with non-profits and organizations throughout Renton and south King County that provide counseling, legal support, support groups, youth mentorship and more. This free event takes place every month on the third Tuesday. VFW Post 1263 is located at 416 Burnett Avenue South. For more information, call 425-324-5030 or visit project-be-free.com.

April 18

Café Vets: Monthly gathering of veterans and guests for coffee and refreshments hosted by Renton American Legion Post 19 and Auxiliary Unit 19 on the third Thursday of every month (except December) from 10 a.m. to noon. Come for coffee, camaraderie and goodies. Legion membership is not a requirement, though most veterans are eligible for membership. Post Service Officer will be on hand, in case someone needs assistance with a VA claim. No agenda, just veterans getting together with other veterans and their friends. Post Hall is in the Renton Highlands, under the water tower (3224 Northeast 12th Street).

Free Museum Day at the Renton History Museum: Enjoy the wonders of the past with free admission to the museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free museum days are every first Wednesday and third Saturday of each month.

Renton 2024 Community Celebrations: Sustainability Fair at Renton Community Center: From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., attend the city’s first Renton Community Celebration of the year. Presented by the Neighborhood and Urban Forestry Program, this fair will have live music. Located at 1715 Maple Valley Hwy in Renton.

April 27

Shred-A-Thon & Prescription Drug Take Back at Renton Memorial Stadium: From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (or until the trucks are full), this is a great, free opportunity to properly shred sensitive documents and get rid of unused or expired medications, as well as donate to a food drive. May 1

Community Garage Sale at Renton Community Center: A perfect opportunity to turn once-loved items into another person’s treasure from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Register online to reserve your 10×10 space. Spaces are assigned randomly. Special requests will not be accepted. Non-Residents fee: $36. Renton residents fee: $30. Register with Course #18798 at rentonwa.gov/register.

May 14

The Renton American Legion Fred Hancock Post 19 Business Meeting: The Renton American Legion Fred Hancock Post 19 meets the second Tuesday of every month, except July and August, at 7 p.m. at the Post Hall, 3224 NE 12th Street, in the Renton Highlands, under the water tower. All veterans welcome. Most vets eligible for membership. America’s premier patriotic veterans organization and the prime driver of the original G. I. Bill, the Legion focuses on service to veterans and has influenced considerable social change in America, won hundreds of benefits for veterans, and produced many important programs for the community, children and youth. Come join us, area vets.

Saturdays

Renton Parkrun at Cedar River Trail: This weekly 5K community event takes place every Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Cedar River Trail trailhead by the I-405 overpass. This free event does require registration but is meant to be a fun event where walkers, joggers, runners, volunteers and spectators can come together.
