From Jan. 17 to May 19, The Lakeshore retirement community in Renton is displaying a special gallery of artwork called “Contemporary Japanese American Art,” with several Lakeshore residents taking part in the gallery.

Curated by Lynda Swenson, the art show’s opening gala was on Saturday, Jan. 17, complete with hors d’oeuvres, desserts, free beverages (including sake), live koto music and a chance to meet local Japanese-American artists.

Artists include Miya Sukune, James Kurihara, Kayako Sareen, Erin Shigaki, Chiyo Sanada, Lisa Hasagawa, Yoshi Nakagawa and Stan Matusui, along with Lakeshore residents David Yano, Susumu Nakanishi, Lillian Sako, Teresa Maebori and Carolyn Perlbachs.

The Lakeshore is located at 11448 Rainier Avenue South.
