The Seattle Seahawks will host auditions for Blue Thunder, the team’s drumline, at CenturyLink Field on April 9. Blue Thunder is an ensemble performance group composed of snare drums, tenor drums, bass drums and cymbal players.
There will be two competition rounds in the audition process. The first round includes two solo performances and personal interview. The second round will be from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., the following day, April 10 and includes group performances including a minimum of two hours instruction on cadences (music will be distributed on-site) and 30 minutes of performance time as soloist, section and/or full group.
Musicians will be judged on artistry, presentation and showmanship.
All candidates must meet the following requirements: ability to read music, achieved a high school diploma or equivalent, successfully complete a background check and be at least 19 years old by April 9, 2016,
Those selected must be available to rehearse year-round with practices scheduled for weekends and some designated weekdays. Members can expect to participate on average up to 40 appearances throughout the year in addition to Seahawks gamedays.
Launched in the summer of 2004, Blue Thunder is an entertainment-focused drumline composed of 33 local musicians with more than 30 years in the industry. Members have a wide variety of musical backgrounds including marching bands, drum corps and rock bands. All music and choreography is original or arranged and written by members of Blue Thunder. Blue Thunder is available for parades, parties and corporate event appearances and made more than 180 appearances last year.
Members of Blue Thunder performed in host cities at all three Seahawks Super Bowl appearances in addition to numerous local and national shows including: ESPN, Fox & Friends, Fox Sports, Good Morning America, TODAY Show and NFL Network.
