Rainier Youth Choirs present holiday concert

Rainier Youth Choirs will present their annual holiday choral concert, “Making Spirits Bright,” on Saturday, Dec. 11, featuring holiday favorites, classics and contemporary selections and audience sing-a-longs.

The concert is 3 p.m. at Kent United Methodist Church, 11010 S.E. 248th St., Kent.

Songs featured will include “Ding, Dong, Merrily on High”, “Personent Hodie”, “The Man with the Bag”, Purcell’s “Sound the Trumpet,” Bach/Gounod’s “Ave Maria”, “The Boar’s Head Carol”, “Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella”, “Christmas Pops Trio”, a jazz version of “Here Comes Santa Claus,” featuring a scat solo by Thomas Jefferson High School sophomore, Sarah Martin, and many other selections, ending with the combined number, “Hope for Resolution” which incorporates the traditional chant “Of the Father’s Love Begotten” with an African freedom song and instruments.

Rainier Youth Choirs consists of three auditioned groups, Bella Voce, Colla Voce and Consonare, spanning grades 4 through college age youth. Members come from Covington, Kent, Maple Valley, Auburn, Federal Way, Enumclaw, Issaquah, and Renton. RYC’s Colla Voce and Consonare perform annually in the Argosy Christmas Ship Festival. Treble singers from all three groups will sing at Benaroya Hall in Orff’s “Carmina Burana” with full orchestra in March.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors/students if purchased in advance (available online at RainierYouthChoirs.org) or $15/$12 at the door. Tickets are available at the door starting at 2:15 p.m. Doors open at 2:45 p.m. with festival seating. Season ticket holders have preferred seating.
