    Eight o’clock sharp. That’s what time Verneice Lemis used to expect the bus going to the Renton Senior Activity Center. She was never disappointed.
    “As sure as the clock said eight o’clock, he was there,” says the 98-year-old Lemis.
    “He” is Bert Feskens, driver of the Renton Senior Activity Center activity bus for the past seven years.

    Tucked behind the wooded areas of Maple Valley where wildlife meets creativity, kids 6 to 12 years old attend Camp Cedar River at the Renton Lions Youth Camp to fulfill their summer wishes. The retreat is a combination of day camps and interaction with Boy and Girl scouts.

    The new art show at Carco Theatre features work by the young hands of 13 Sierra Heights Elementary students.
    The art encompasses a variety of mediums, including cloth blanket, tempura, collage, crayon, watercolor, acrylic, even egg yolk and Kool-Aid. The pieces will be exhibited in Carco’s lobby through Aug. 15.

    Renton families wrap up recycling challenge June 26

    It’s the home stretch in the Renton Neighborhood Challenge, and the competitors are still going strong.
    Over the past four weeks, the six East Renton Plateau families have reduced their trash by a combined 80 pounds – from just over 146 pounds at the first May 29 weigh-in to just over 65 pounds at last Wednesday’s.
    Tomorrow, (Thursday) the six neighbors will lug their trash bags to the scale one last time. The family whose trash has lost the most weight over the five weeks wins the challenge.
