Thanks to the efforts of Eastside Veterinary Associates and Renton Animal Control, four cats and three dogs were adopted on Saturday during a special pet adoption event.
From 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 14, a crowd of would-be pet owners filled the lobby of Eastside Veterinary, waiting to meet the animals and learn about their known backstories.
The first two animals to be adopted were Duck the labrador-shepherd mix dog, and Tomato the tabby cat.
Duck had been available for adoption for six months, and his new owners, Mike and Mary Holmen, were told about the adoption event by their daughter. The two had always had labs before and adopted Duck shortly after meeting him for the first time.
Tomato was adopted by Julie Horan and Bob Ziegler. Ziegler had always had cats, but Tomato was the first one they adopted as a couple since getting married five years ago. They are keeping the name.
“We like Tomato, we fell in love with her,” said Horan. “The cat’s a he, but I keep calling her a she.”
All pets who were and are up for adoption met several standards, like being fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. The animals who are still available for adoption can be found at 24petconnect.com by filtering with the zip code 98057 and shelter under Renton Police Department.
