Fairwood Market Night kicks off summer with pets in mind

The May 14 opener will feature a pet adoption event and a reptile petting zoo.

The monthly Fairwood Market Night returns May 14 for the 2025 season with a tooth-and-claw opener.

The “Fairwood Gone Wild” theme centers on “fur babies and four legged friends” where, along with the usual booths, local vendors and live entertainment will be available from 4-8 p.m at Northwood Middle School, 17007 SE 184th St.

At 4 p.m., the market will open with lion dancing, and from 6-7 p.m., April Jackson the Reptile Lady will hold an interactive reptile petting zoo, complete with snakes, tortoises and a photo with a baby alligator

Thematic activities will include birdhouse painting and homemade pet treats with Chef Francis, and there will be a pet food drive along with a pet adoption event.

The Fairwood Community Group recently received $3,000 for the Fairwood Market Night from the Alan M. Painter Grant Program.

The Fairwood Market Night takes place every third Wednesday between May and October. This year’s themes will be “Fairwood Gets Outside” on June 11, “Health and Safety Fair” on July 9, “Bite of Fairwood” on Aug. 13, Celebrate Pop Culture” on Sept. 10 and “Hometown Harvet Festival” on Oct. 8.
