Renton Reporter wins at 2023 Better Newspaper Contest

Bailey Jo Josie, Benjamin Leung, Ben Ray, Cameron Sheppard and Katie Morgan were recognized by the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association over the weekend.

At the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association’s 2023 Better Newspaper Contest on Saturday, Oct. 7, the Renton Reporter came away with several awards.

Bailey Jo Josie won first place in the category of “Personality Profile, Short” for her business profile on photographer Bruce Hudson in the March 25 article “Renton’s Hudson Portrait Studio celebrates 41 years, thanks to strong relationships.”

Benjamin Leung won second place in “Crime & Court Story” for his article “Renton man’s Hyundai gets hot-wired thanks to social media challenge” from March 17.

Katie Morgan won second place in the category of “Newspaper House Ad” for her “Shop, Dine & Do Business in Renton” newspaper advertising design.

Ben Ray won third place for “2023 Sports Writer of the Year” for his sports coverage across South King County, which includes his work from the Renton Reporter and the Federal Way Mirror.

The Renton Reporter is one of many publications under Sound Publishing, which won a total of 63 awards at this year’s Better Newspaper Contest. Included among these wins are Benjamin Leung and Cameron Sheppard’s coverage for the Auburn Reporter and Olivia Sullivan’s work for the Federal Way Mirror.
