Tyler Ashley, a fifth grader at Tiffany Park Elementary in Renton, was inducted into the 2013 AAA School Safety Patrol Hall of Fame on May 24, in recognition of his dedication to safety, community stewardship and leadership.
Ashley was one of 10 outstanding patrollers from across Washington recognized at the evening awards ceremony held before the Seattle Mariners game at Safeco Field.
As a long standing tradition, AAA Washington and a panel of judges from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Washington Traffic Safety Commission select top patrollers from schools across Washington each year, and honor their accomplishments through induction in the AAA School Safety Patrol Hall of Fame.
Patrollers are evaluated and judged on their commitment to traffic safety, citizenship, leadership skills, and contributions to school safety patrol programs. Nominations require input from both the patroller and their advisor, including responses to a series of essay questions.
Ashley was chosen for his outstanding leadership as described below:
Safety is one of Ashley’s top priorities at Tiffany Park Elementary. He is considered a leader among his peers, goes above and beyond to ensure the safety of others, and continually seeks ways to improve safety in his community. This is Ashley’s second year participating in school safety patrol and fellow patrollers continue to look to him as a role model in the program. He has demonstrated exceptional maturity and sets a good example for other patrollers for how respectful, responsible and dependable he is. In his nomination, his patrol advisor, Ryan DeFant, stated “Tyler has been the prefect patrol role model. His leadership skills have been very valuable and he does a great job of communicating safety expectations with students.”
