Traffic cameras to go dark this weekend

Puget Sound drivers who rely on the state transportation department’s traffic cameras to get traffic information must use other resources this weekend as traffic crews cut communication to dozens of cameras between Seattle and Tacoma.

Drivers will need to get their traffic information from television, radio and overhead travel time signs.

Crews expect to cut access to 25 miles of cameras at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, and reconnect the system by 4 a.m. on Sept. 14. Traffic cameras taken off-line include:

• I-5 between Spokane Street and the King/Pierce County line

• SR 18 between I-5 and SR 164; SR 99 near the First Avenue Bridge

• All cameras on SR 599, SR 518, SR 167, and SR 161.
