Pedestrian seriously injured crossing Rainier on New Year’s Eve UPDATE: Man dies

UPDATE: The pedestrian died at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Harborview Medical Center.

A 34-year-old man was seriously injured when he was struck by a truck while crossing Rainier Avenue South on foot on New Year’s Eve.

According to police, the accident occurred around 6:45 p.m. Dec. 31 in the 300 block of Rainier Avenue South.

The vehicle was turning from Southwest Sunset Boulevard onto Southbound Rainier when it struck the man, who was not in a crosswalk.

The victim was transported to Harborview with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene.
