Several dozen Renton residents braved a near-constant rain Monday afternoon to join members of the Renton American Legion Fred Hancock Post 19 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Frank R. Vaise Post No. 1263 in honoring those who have fallen in service of the country during a special Memorial Day celebration at the Veterans Memorial Park.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of the park’s construction.
Speakers included American Legion Chaplain Bruce Feltmann, City Council President Randy Corman and guest speaker LTC Curt R. Simonson.
Following the service, several people found the names of family members and placed flowers near the bricks honoring their memory.
Bricks are still available for engraving at the memorial, which will be re-faced this summer. For more information on obtaining a tile, visit www.rentonwa.gov.
