The Hazen boys cross-country team placed second at the SPSL/Seamount 3A sub-districts Oct. 23 at Fort Steilacoom.

The Highlanders trailed first-place Peninsula 51-56. Sophomore Daniel Karpman led Hazen with a fourth-place overall finish.

Conner Hall (sixth), Chase Onstot (eighth), Lloyd Byran (16th), Guy Bailey (22nd), Eric Miya (27th) and Daniel Velasco (32nd) rounded out the Hazen team.

The Highlanders girls team took fifth at the meet. Lindsey Strandberg led Hazen by finishing in 21st. Ashley Selover (26th), Alisha Piazza (29th), Keturah Slaugh (33rd), Kate Ahearn (39th), Jackie Manson (41st) and Madalynn Martin (45th) also competed in the race for Hazen.
