Federal, State: Primary election results are in for Renton voters

Ballot counts for the August primary favor incumbents in Congressional Districts 8 and 9, which include Renton, and Legislative District 11, which includes the cities of Renton, Kent, Tukwila, south Seattle and parts of unincorporated King County.

United States Representative

For Congressional District No. 8 US Representative, incumbent Democrat Kim Schrier is in the lead with 60.97% of the votes, totaling 62,912.

Republican challenger Spencer Meline currently holds 14.39% of the votes with 14,850 votes.

Behind the two frontrunners are Republican Trinh Ha with 11.93%, Republican Bob Hagglund with 7.95% and Democratic candidate Keith Arnold with 2.60% and Republican Andres Valleza with 1.92% of the vote.

For Congressional District No. 9 US Representative, incumbent Democrat Adam Smith is in the lead with 47.28% of the votes, totaling 66,326.

Republican challenger Doug Basler currently holds 21.90% of the votes with 30,726 votes.

Behind the two frontrunners are Independent Kshama Sawant with 17.09%, Democrat Melissa Chaudhry with 12.47% and Socialist Workers Party candidate Jacob Perasso with 1.11%.

Along with Renton, District 9 includes Algona, Auburn, Beaux Arts, Bellevue, Des Moines, Federal Way, the majority of Kent, Mercer Island, Milton, Newcastle, Pacific, SeaTac, parts of southeast Seattle and Tukwila.

State Senator

For Legislative District 37 State Senator, the numbers show Democrat Chipalo Street ahead with nearly 3/4 of the votes. Street has 73.84% of the vote — or approximately 27,779 votes.

Democrat Tatiana Brown has taken home approximately 25.37% of the vote. Write-ins currently stand at 299, taking 0.79% of the votes, as of Monday, Aug. 10.

State Representative Position 1

For Legislative District 11 State Rep. Pos. 1, incumbent David Hackney is set to face newcomer Ashley Fedan in the general election.

The Aug. 10 primary election results update show Democrat Hackney has received 42.36% of the vote or 10,883 votes.

Democratic candidate Fedan has secured 31.85% of the vote, or 8,182 votes, as of Aug. 10. Behind both candidates is Republican Christian Rombough, who currently has 25.67% of the vote, totaling 6,595.

Write-ins are currently at 32, making up 0.12% of the total vote.

For Legislative District 37 State Rep. Pos. 1, newcomer Kelabe Tewolde is leading incumbant Sharon Tomiko Santos.

The Aug. 10 primary election results update show Democrat Tewolde has received 51.28% of the vote, or 19,531 votes.

Democratic Tewolde has secured 48.08% of the vote or 18,313 votes. as of Aug. 10.

Write-ins are currently at 241, making up 0.63% of the total vote.

For Legislative District 41 State Rep. Pos. 1, incumbent Janice Zahn is set to face newcomer Elle Nguyen in the general election.

The Aug. 10 primary election results update show Democrat Zahn has received 72.03% of the vote or 26,329 votes.

Republican candidate Nguyen has secured 26.77% of the vote, or 9,786 votes, as of Aug. 10. Behind both candidates is Standup-America Party candidate Alex Tsimerman, who currently has 1.04% of the vote, totaling 379.

Write-ins are currently at 57, making up 0.16% of the total vote.

State Representative Position 2

Democrat Steve Bergquist is the only candidate for Legislative District 11 State Rep. Pos. 2 in the general election.

So far, unopposed Bergquist has 94.80% of votes or 19,402 votes, King County Election results show.

Write-ins are currently at 1,065, making up 5.20% of the total vote.

For Legislative District 37 State Rep. Pos. 2, Democrat Jaelynn Scott is leading Independent Evon McCorkle.

The Aug. 10 primary election results update show Scott has received 88.35% of the vote, or 33,217 votes.

McCorkle has secured 10.83% of the vote or 4,073 votes. as of Aug. 10.

Write-ins are currently at 307, making up 0.82% of the total vote.

For Legislative District 41 State Rep. Pos. 2, incumbent My-Linh T Thai is set to face Michael Rosen in the general election.

The Aug. 10 primary election results update show Democrat Thai has received 66.30% of the vote or 23,804 votes.

Independent candidate Rosen has secured 33.42% of the vote, or 11,999 votes, as of Aug. 10.

Write-ins are currently at 99, making up 0.28% of the total vote.

Overall voter turnout stands at 36% as of 4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 10.

The election results are updated each day at 4 p.m. until they are certified on Aug. 18. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
