Houser Way North to close for one week

The city of Renton will be closing Houser Way North for one week in the near future.
At the Aug. 3 Renton City Council meeting, the council approved a temporary full-closure of Houser Way North between Lake Washington Boulevard North and Lowe’s business access road for a one week period to occur sometime between Friday Aug. 7 and Monday, Oct. 12. The closure is to remove an obstruction underneath the railroad tracks to construct storm drainage facilities supporting the I-405, Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes (ETL) project.
Councilmember Carmen Rivera said the obstruction may be the size of a Volkswagen Beetle.
“Hopefully it will only be closed for a weekend, but they’re allowing at least one week just in case we find a dinosaur head or something else,” Rivera said.
This section of road had a planned closure period early last year that was delayed into the beginning of this year due to waiting for permitting and approvals with BNSF (Burlington Northern and Santa Fe) Railway.
Previous detour routes lead southbound traffic onto Garden Avenue North, turning left onto North 8th Street and left onto Houser Way North. Traffic northbound on Logan Avenue North will turn right onto Garden Avenue North, take a left onto North 8th Street, and then left onto Houser Way North.
Those closures were also due to the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes project, which will add new capacity between SR 167 in Renton and Northeast Sixth Street in Bellevue. One new lane will be added in each direction and combine the existing HOV lane with the new lane to create a dual ETL system.
