A Renton man was charged with 10 felonies related to robberies and burglaries in King County, including four in Renton, two that targeted the home of musician Macklemore, and several more that targeted the homes of sports players.
After the Renton Police Department arrested Patrick S. Maisonet, 29, of Renton on Aug. 21, for an outstanding warrant related to a May 2024 robbery, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged him on Sept. 4 with five counts of residential burglary, three counts of first-degree robbery and two counts of first-degree burglary. Through those burglaries, more than $300,000 worth of items were stolen, including cash, designer bags and two watches valued at over $70,000.
According to charging documents, Maisonet robbed or burglarized the homes of athletes such as Seattle Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo, Mariners Hall of Famer Ichiro Suzuki, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell, former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman and musician Macklemore. Including the burglary of another home not belonging to a musician or an athlete, these incidents occurred between Jan. 6 and June 7.
Maisonet was also recently charged with another Nov. 2024 robbery from a Bellevue jewelry store, where he acted as the getaway driver. In that case, his alleged coconspirator was a 16-year-old.
“Police investigators and attorneys from the Special Operations and Violent Crimes units of the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office have been working together for months,” King County Prosecuting Attorney Leesa Manion said. “I am grateful for the work from police investigators in Renton, Seattle, Issaquah, Edmonds, and the King County Sheriff’s Office, and our deputy prosecutors – on this case and on all burglaries filed in King County. People deserve to feel safe in their homes and businesses, and our office will continue to hold people appropriately accountable for criminal behavior.”
According to King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office spokesperson, Casey McNerthney, the Renton Police Department was the lead investigating agency in the 10 charges filed against Maisonet on Sept. 4. McNerthney said that codefendant, Earl Henderson Riley IV, was also a codefendant in four of the crimes Maisonet was charged with.
According to McNerthney, on the Sept. 4 charges, Maisonet is being held on a $1 million bail. With three other pending cases, Maisonet has a total bail of $2.265 million and remains in jail, McNerthney said.
Details of the cases
The crimes for which Maisonet was charged are linked back to him due to three cellphones that an investigating officer concluded could reasonably be thought to belong to Maisonet. Documents state that investigators found that those cellphones were linked to Maisonet because GPS data showed that they were at each of the homes that were robbed or burglarized during the incidents, then returned to the homes where he was staying.
Documents state that those phones were also used to subsequently call a jeweler in Seattle, whom investigators suspect acted as a buyer for goods that Maisonet stole from the homes he targeted. According to documents, Maisonet’s involvement in the incidents was further confirmed by his Community Corrections Officer, who confirmed that photos from the crime scenes he believed with reasonable certainty were photos of Maisonet.
On Feb. 7, detectives from several agencies began investigating a spree of burglaries to homes belonging to current and former local professional athletes. Documents state that video footage showed a man who is Black, about 6’3” tall and between 170 and 180 pounds, whom officers allege is Maisonet. There’s also probable cause to believe Maisonet is the suspect in over a dozen burglaries that targeted Asian people in the Renton area.
The first case occurred at about 2:51 p.m. Jan. 6 in Renton when officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress. According to documents, the homeowner said that his alarm company alerted him, and surveillance footage showed a black-masked male inside his home, dragging a safe. The homeowner returned home and saw a gold Nissan Murano with out-of-state plates in his driveway. Documents state that the suspect forced entry through a rear window using a crowbar and moved the safe to the front door, but the homeowner spotted the burglar.
According to documents, when the burglar saw the homeowner, the burglar entered the vehicle and sped away from the home, almost hitting the homeowner in the process. The homeowner reported that about $2,000 in cash was stolen. The description of the burglar fit Maisonet, and a phone believed to belong to Maisonet was at the home at the time of the burglary.
Ichiro Suzuki’s home
On Feb. 9, Ichiro Suzuki was not at his Issaquah home, but his wife, Yumiko Fukushima, was when she heard a window break and described a man fitting Maisonet’s descriptions. Documents state that Maisonet then tried to enter the room she was in.
“The suspect then forcefully tried to gain access to the bedroom by breaking the lock on the door, fracturing the wood framing around the door. Yumiko pushed back on the door ‘with all her strength’ to prevent the suspect from gaining entry,” documents state. “In response, the suspect reached his arm through the opening and disbursed OC spray into Yumiko’s face and upper chest. Yumiko continued to fight back and was finally able to secure the door with a bar and door stopper.”
Documents state that Maisonet stole about $19,000 worth of items, consisting of designer bags.
Blake Snell’s home
According to documents, on March 24, Maisonet and Riley are believed to have entered Snell’s home by breaking a window. Officers placed Maisonet at the scene due to phone GPS data indicating his cellphone was at the scene, and the description of the burglar matches his. In this burglary, $244,630 worth of items were stolen, including a watch valued at $58,400, two watches valued at $75,000, designer bags, jewelry and cash. Documents state that officers found photos of Riley posting photos on Facebook with one of the watches, and a designer bag belonging to Snell was recovered at his home.
Richard Sherman’s home
Documents state that at about 12:46 a.m. March 30, one of Sherman’s family members was at his home with children when three men, one of whom officers believe is Maisonet, entered his home and held a man in the home at gunpoint. According to documents, over $100,000 worth of items were stolen.
Macklemore’s home
Not many details are provided regarding the burglary at Macklemore’s home. Still, documents state that while working with Seattle police, the Renton police officer investigating these crimes developed probable cause to believe that Maisonet was responsible for the robbery and burglary at his home. These alleged crimes occurred on June 7, at Macklemore’s Seattle home.
