Bigfoot banner back on Renton History Museum, thanks to PEMCO

Thanks to the aid of some good samaritans, the Renton History Museum was able to recreate and replace its stolen banner from the “Bigfoot is Probably Real” exhibit.

The banner was stolen Tuesday, Nov. 15, by a thief in broad daylight mid-morning.

In just two days, a new banner went up as a gift from PEMCO Insurance. Marjorie Hastings, PEMCO marketing research analyst, read about the theft through the museum’s Twitter and Facebook posts and decided to cover the costs of a new banner on behalf of the company.

The banner was printed by Wide Format Co., which still had the artwork and was able to add the new banner quickly to its printing schedule.

The banner cost about $200 and museum staff feared they would not be able to replace the banner after the theft.

The Renton History Museum also received numerous other offers of assistance. Those funds will be used to assist with the digitization of the museum’s audio-taped oral histories and films, or will be set aside for the creation of banners for future exhibits.

“We were so upset that someone would target the museum in broad daylight, but so many people came forward with offers of support that we’re really gratified that the story had a happy ending,” said Elizabeth Stewart, museum director.
