The school resource officer for Renton High School, Thaddeus Kerkhoff, received the 2018 Washington Association of School Administrators Community Service award last week.

He was awarded for his work in keeping “students safe and (fostering) relationships with the students and families he serves,” according to a Renton School District press release.

Kerkhoff has created events and activities to better connect students with law enforcement.

He helped create the Pizza with a Cop series, a chance for students to spend time with him over a slice of pizza; the Renton Teen Peace Fest, a community event where residents and youth can interact and play with law enforcement officials; and Student Car Club. He also coaches football at RHS.
