Eagles picking up the pace | Boys basketball season preview

Blink and you might miss them.

Under new coach Chris Weakley the Lindbergh boys basketball team will be in the running to win every game.

Literally. The Eagles will be moving up and down the court at a breakneak pace.

“We try to get up the floor in seven seconds and get a shot or a layup,” Weakley said. “We want to push the tempo of the game and push the basketball.”

Weakley is in his first season at Lindbergh, taking over for Barry Johnson (now at Lake Washington). When he first got to Lindbergh, he wanted to see two things from his new players: how they reacted to pressure and how much effort they gave.

“They worked hard, they got on the floor and dove for balls,” he said of his first impressions of the Eagles. “They wanted to learn.”

Derek Rosoboro, a 6-foot-6 senior, will vital on offense and in rebounding for the Eagles.

“He’s a strong kid,” Weakley said. “He can play with his back to the basket. He can play outside, he’s a key for us.”

Lindbergh has a very young backcourt with James Keum at shooting guard and Keith Green at point guard. Keum, a sophomore, is a talented scorer. Green is a freshman and only 14, but Weakley likes what he sees with Green’s mental game.

“He’s a student of the game,” Weakley said. “He can make the right decisions with the basketball.”

David Bowman will headline Lindbergh’s defense. Weakley called the 6-foot-2 senior one of the state’s best defenders.

Weakley said the biggest factor in Lindbergh’s success this season will be how hard his team goes.

“If the guys compete, that’s all it takes,” he said. “There aren’t any Lebrons or Kobes in this league, all the teams are pretty similarly constructed. It’s about how they compete.”
