The Renton City Council hosted a reception for pastor Kirby Unti prior to its Aug. 5 council meeting.

Unti has been in Renton more than 30 years, but was recently elected to a regional post within the Lutheran Church.

The well-attended reception included members of the city, Renton School District, Valley Medical, business leaders and community members.

During the council council meeting that evening, a special proclamation was read and Aug. 5 was named “Kirby Unti Day.”

Mayor Denis Law also presented Unti with a key to the city.
