On Thursday, King County Fire Station 20 firefighters and medics, along with The Lakeshore residents and leadership gathered at The Lakeshore on Rainier Avenue South to commemorate ten years of successful fundraising for Fire Station 20.

During the celebration, The Lakeshore leadership presented a check for $4,192 raised by residents during the community’s monthly fund-raising luncheons in 2013.

For a decade, The Lakeshore has hosted monthly luncheons to support Fire Station 20. To date, the community, its residents, their friends and family have donated $40,000 to help Fire Station 20 purchase much needed medical supplies and equipment.

“Donations from The Lakeshore helped us purchase an Automated External Defibrillator,” Fire Station 20 Chief, Mark Chub said in a press release. “This piece of equipment has helped improve our resuscitation rate, and King County is proud to have the highest resuscitation rate in the country.”

Past donations have helped fund everything from child-safety seats specially designed for ambulance travel so children could go with parents to the hospital when needed, to the procurement of the most fundamental supplies like gauze and bandages during the recent recession, when the fire station was deeply impacted by state budget cuts.

“Giving to Fire Station 20 is a win-win,” said The Lakeshore Executive Director Susanne Rossi. “The first responders know there is a safety net for needed equipment. For us, knowing that the funds we donate might save the life of a neighbor or friend is rewarding.”
