A bake sale on Saturday will help the Old Renton Book Exchange on Wells Avenue downtown recover from a breakin last week.

The bake sale is 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the bookshop, 227 Wells Ave. S. The sale is organized by Mary Clymer, who operated Happy Delusions around the corner for many years.

Baked items can be dropped off by 11 a.m. or even throughout the day, said store owner Dacia Hanson. The shop is open 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Someone broke into the shop overnight on Tuesday, Nov. 13, using a pipe wrench or channel locks to snap off the front-door lock, Hanson said.

About $300 in cash was stolen; no books were taken, she said.

That $300 “is about two or three days worth of sales and I had to pay to have the locks replaced,” she said.

It’s the second robbery at the bookshop since it opened in spring 2010.
