In response to the recent deaths of Philando Castille, Alton Sterling and five Dallas police officers, Renton’s African American Pastoral Group held a community prayer July 8 at SKY Urban Empowerment and Transformation Center.

Rev. Dr. Linda Smith led community members in a time of prayer, song, candle lighting and reflection. Local church leaders also participated in the service.

The fatal shootings of Castille in Minnesota and Sterling in Louisiana resulted in a national outcry over police shootings of black men. Five police officers in Dallas were killed and seven were wounded during a protest following Castille and Sterling’s deaths.
