Snow possible today, freezing temperatures expected through the week

Snow is possible tonight, even in some of the lower-lying areas, due to a strong low pressure system moving across Western Washington and bringing colder temperatures today, according to a special weather statement form the National Weather Service.

Snow levels are expected to fall to 500 feet in the interior and even lower through the evening.

According to the statement, any snow showers today, Monday, should be confined to hilltops above the 500-foot line. The snow will be accompanied by colder temperatures, but they should remain above freezing, confining the snow to brief and spotty accumulations of less than one inch mainly to grassy areas.

As colder air filters further south, flurries are possible throughout the metro areas, but the air mass will be drying out as temperatures fall below freezing Tuesday morning.

Cold temperatures are also expected to remain in place through the weekend with highs in the low 30s and overnight lows dropping into the mid-20s through the week. Additional snow is possible at the end of the week.
