Dr. Paul Joos and Mary Alice Heuschel are running for an open seat on the Public Hospital District No. 1 Board of Commissioners.

Dr. Paul Joos, a longtime Renton eye surgeon, will replace Don Jacobson on the Public Hospital District No. 1 Board of Directors.

Joos took a decisive lead over his opponent, Mary Alice Heuschel, superintendent of the Renton School District, following the release of initial general election results Tuesday night.

He maintained that lead when the Wednesday results were posted. He led by about 5,500 votes on Wednesday.

The Wednesday results showed Joos with 58.28  percent of the vote to Heuschel’s 41.43 percent. The percentage had changed little from Tuesday night.

Joos had a busy day Wednesday, in surgery and in his clinic.

“I have worked very hard,” he said. “I think I will do a good job for the public.”
