Football: Liberty completes comeback, Lindbergh makes history with blowout to set up all-Renton state quarterfinal

Liberty 38, O’Dea

The Patriots trailed 35-17 with less than nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. Trey Wheeler connected with sophomore Josh Gordon (Gordon’s first career catch) for a 16-yard score.

Liberty’s Jay Chakravarty recovered an onside kick on the ensuing kickoff. Wheeler found Peter Wiggum for a 27-yard score two plays later.

Kyle Ahrens recovered an O’Dea fumble on the ensuing kickoff and Chandler Jenkins scored on a three-yard rush a few plays later. Wheeler connected with Wiggum for a two-point conversion to complete the comeback.

Lindbergh 52, Ferndale 21

The Eagles led 27-7 at the half, but Ferndale got as close as 27-21 before Lindbergh exploded for 25 points in the fourth quarter.

It is the first state tournament win in school history.

Frank Cange and Derek Herley each scored three times.

Lindbergh will play at Liberty in the 3A state tournament quarterfinals next weekend.
