Track and field: District meet recap and list of state qualifying athletes

Renton, Hazen and Lindbergh track and field athletes competed in the West Central District meet last weekend. The top seven competitors in each event advance to the state meet May 28-30 at Mount Tahoma.

Hazen

Boys

Ducan Mackay placed seventh in the 100, at 11.55 seconds. He also placed fourth in the 200, with a time of 22.68 seconds. He placed 10th in the 400. Mackay will run at state in the 100 and 200.

James Holland placed sixth in the 110 hurdles. He ran a time of 15.43 seconds. Holland will run in state in the hurdle event.

Andrey Levkiv won the shot put competition with a throw of 59 feet, 10 inches. Levkiv also placed third in the discus, at 157 feet. He will compete in both at state.

Courtney Sanders placed fifth in the shot put, at 52 feet, seven inches. He will throw in the event at state.

Jeff Hinckley came in second in the pole vault, at 13 feet, six inches. He will compete at state.

Also competing at districts: Michael McGillivrary (400), Clay Strom (800), Adriel Johnson (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Tyler Blakley (javelin), Cody Cottrill (javelin), Kyle Martin (pole vault)

Girls

Starr Williams placed seventh in the 100, at 13.05 seconds. She also placed sixth in the 200, at 26.96. Williams will compete in state in both events.

Also competing at districts: Airashay Rogers (100, shot put), Venecia Rowan (200), Erin Anderson (400), Makenzie Simpson (400), Sarah Schoville (100 hurdles), Leslie Mikolaizik (javelin), Brittany Phillio (high jump), Kaysie Rozsonits (high jump, long jump), Robin Lee (pole vault, triple jump)

Renton

Boys

Tevin Ponders placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.21 seconds. Ponders’ best time this season is 14.63. He’s placed in the top two in the event at nine meets this season. Ponders placed fifth in the 300 hurdles. He advances to state in both events.

Armin Basic won the discus with a distance of 166 feet, five inches. The distance was over seven feet longer than second place. Basic placed third in shot put, at 53 feet, five inches. He advances to state in both events.

Ronnielle Kelly-Battles won the long jump event, jumping 22 feet, 8.25 inches. He finished second in the triple jump, at 45 feet, two inches. Kelly-Battles will compete in the state meet in both events.

Also competing at districts: Gary Hay (400), Alex Nguyen (javelin), Michael Moore (high jump), P.J. Benedictus (triple jump)

Girls

Boryana Atansova placed third in the shot put, at 37 feet, 11 inches. She placed fourth in discus, with a throw of 115 feet, one inch. Atanasova also placed second in the javelin. She will travel to state in all three events.

Roylanda Jackson placed fifth in shot put. She tossed distance of 36 feet, eight inches. She also placed 10th in discus. Jackson will compete in the shot put at state.

Tiana Gibson finished third in the long jump, at 16 feet, 2.75 inches. She advances to state in the event.

Kristin Haag placed sixth in the long jump, with a distance of 15 feet, 7.25 inches. She also competed in the high jump, placing 19th). She advances to the state meet in the long jump.

Also competing at districts: Amadi Bentley (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Victoria Fernandez (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Tricia Bui (pole vault)

Renton

Boys

Adam Freed placed sixth in the 100, with a time of 11.50 seconds. He also ran in the 400. Freed will run at state in the 100.

Matt Miland finished second in the 1600. Miland ran a time of four minutes, 19.70 seconds. Miland also placed second in the 3200, at 9:35.81. He will run both events at state.

Joseph Patti placed fourth in the 1600, at four minutes, 26.29 seconds. Patti also placed 10th in the 3200. He will run the 1600 at state.

Trevor Thompson placed sixth in the 1600, with a time of four minutes, 26.43 seconds. He finished third in the 3200, at 9:36.96. He will complete in both at state.

Jacob Allie placed fifth in the discus. He threw a distance of 152 feet. Allie will throw in the event at state.

Also competing at districts: Nate Tandecki (800), James Cornell (3200), Zack Nielsen (shot put, discus)

Girls

Makala Williams placed fourth in the long jump, she jumped a distance of 15 feet, 11.50 inches. Williams also placed sixth in the triple jump, at 34 feet, 0.50 inches. Williams will compete in both at state.
