Softball: Casey Routos strikes out 12, leads Lindbergh to districts

Casey Routos picked up her third win against Hazen on the season as Lindbergh beat the Highlanders 10-1 Monday.

The two were playing in a Seamount/SPSL contest, the win assured Lindbergh (15-4) of a berth into the West Central District III fastpitch tournament.

Routos pitched the complete game and struck out 12. She allowed just one hit. Routos went 2-3 with two RBIs and a steal from the plate.

Adriana Bernal went 2-4 with two RBIs. Kasey Sporrong went 3-4 with three RBIs and a triple.

Kellie Pederson earned Hazen’s lone RBI. Ashley Thorenson stole two bases for the Highlanders.

Later in the day, Lindbergh beat Sumner 6-5. The Eagles trailed by one run heading into the seventh inning, but scored twice to win.

Lindbergh earns the seventh seed from the Seamount/SPSL tournament and will play it’s first district game Friday at 2 p.m. at Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma.

The tournament is double elimination. If Lindbergh wins, it will play at 6 p.m. Friday, if it loses it will play at 8 p.m. Friday. Seven of the 16 teams in the tournament will earn berths to state.

After losing to Lindbergh, Hazen fell to White River 7-0 later in the afternoon.

The loss ended the Highlanders’ (8-14) season.
