Seamount teams head to 3A, 2A sub-district tournaments; Liberty ready for districts after one-point win against LW | Girls basketball

The Hazen girls basketball team finished a comeback win 56-55 against rival Renton Friday.

The Highlanders (11-8 overall, 8-6 Seamount) finish third in the Seamount with the league’s second 3A seed. Hazen will face Enumclaw (7-12) in the first round of the sub-districts Friday night. The winner earns the fourth seed to districts, the loser fifth.

Renton (6-12, 5-9) takes sixth in the Seamount and the fourth 2A seed to sub-districts. Renton will play against Sequim (9-9) in a loser-out game Friday at 6 p.m. at Sumner High School.

Renton led Hazen by nine points at the half thanks to a 14-4 run in the second quarter. Hazen came back with 37 points in the second half.

Airashay Rogers scored 26 points for Hazen on just 14 shots. Michelle Wnek scored 19.

Taylor Farris and P.J. Tuiasosopo each scored 18 for Renton. Shanease Kenner scored 15.

Foster 68, Lindbergh 57

Lindbergh fell to Foster 68-57 in the regular-season finale Friday.

The Eagles (9-9, 7-7) finish fifth in the Seamount with the league’s third 2A seed into sub-districts. Lindbergh will play Peninsula (5-14) in a loser-out, winner-to-district game Friday.

Gabriel Redwine led Lindbergh with 24 points against Foster. Emily Graver scored 14 and had nine assists.

Liberty 55, Lake Washington 54

Liberty beat Lake Washington 55-54 in the first round of the KingCo 3A tournament Saturday.

The Patriots (14-7) finished third in the KingCo 3A/2A in the regular season and locked in a berth to districts with the win against Lake Washington. Liberty plays Juanita Tuesday and then either Mount Si or Mercer Island Thursday to determine district seeding.
