Nothing seemed to go right for the Liberty baseball team in a season-ending, 4-1 loss to Sammamish in the first round of the KingCo tournament May 11.

The Patriots dominated the Totems during the regular season, sweeping all three games by a combined 19-1.

Sammamish got on the board early with four runs in the top of the first. Then the first of Liberty’s bad breaks on offense. After getting a batter picked off at second, Troy Colyer smacked a triple to the outfield wall.

Troy Askins saved at least one run with an impressive diving catch in center field in the top of the second inning. Liberty scored a run on the bottom of the second when Nick Hart came home on a passed ball.

Askins had another diving catch in the sixth, but that was about all that worked for the Patriots. Liberty hit the ball hard at times, but it always went right to the Sammamish fielders.

Liberty threatened in the sixth, but the inning ended with a questionable interference call when Hart slid into second. The call wiped a Liberty run off the board and ended any chance for a rally.
